REQUIEM - 2012 NEWS

A lot of good things in the works for REQUIEM in 2012.

Whilst continuing on new material there's other exciting happenings at hand:

In March I will be doing a handful of dates with Mario Diaz de Leon whose new CD is out TODAY. The shows will be announced soon.

My good friend, and filmmaker collaborator Michael Todd Schneider is directing a segment of the horror anthology The Profane Exhibit, an international celebration of extreme horror and the directors involved in that scene. Here's the latest news on this soon to be talked about film. I'll be appearing in the film as well as contributing some sounds.

On top of that, Michael will be finishing up his latest film "Let's Make a Horror Movie" and promoting his last two films "...And Then I Helped" and "Our Devil's Night" all of which contain score work from REQUIEM.

On July 4th Lee Bartow (aka Theologian) of Annihilvs Power Electronix is releasing a 2 CD compilation entitled "America The Grave". I've already submitted my track entitled "Shed His Grace". I'm really happy with it and excited for it to be heard.

All of this, more, and hopefully a new CD. Slow and (not so) steady is my pace right now, but the end result will be worth it.

As for the music side of things, I'm still working on the new cd and just finished writing a new segment to the puzzle that will be this release. I'll be performing some of this new stuff at a show in August that will be announced at a later date.

Bryan Lewis Saunders is releasing a 24 part cassette tape collection of musicians performing with and interpreting the recordings he makes of himself talking in his sleep. The project is called "Stream of Unconscious" and he was kind enough to get me involved and I did #24 "The Weaver Box"....it's pretty unsettling. This can be ordered here:

My good friend Michael Todd Schneider of MagGotfilms has his store up and running on his website. Available for order is the "Double Dose of Terror" DVD. It's a horror anthology between Michael and Tyler Tharpe as well as a side dose of terror from Max Almeida. Music from me in both Michael and Max's segment. Also for sale is the soundtrack to Michael's film "A Tribute to Sanity" which has some requiem on it. In the future keep an eye out for more films and soundtracks. This is only the beginning. Much more on the way.

AN OPEN QUESTION ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY AND PHOTOSHOP ETHICS

Photography is something I enjoy doing as a past time artistic endeavor.  In the past I tried to avoid altering my photos as much as possible.  It almost felt like, if I couldn't get the shot properly the first time with the camera and only the camera and available lighting, then the shot wasn't meant to be.  I've always used photoshop however to remove unwanted dust, dead pixels, and on occasion adjusting brightness and contrast.  Even using the brightness and contrast adjustments almost made me feel like I was cheating in some way.

As a Graphic Designer however, I have no qualms about altering images and tweaking things in pictures until it's sometimes something completely different and something humanly impossible to achieve with just a camera.

I've read some discussions online about when, and if, it is ok for a photographer to use photoshop to alter their images.  There's no clear cut answer, but a lot of people agree with this rule of thumb.  If you're taking a picture to document something, such as a photojournalist would do, you should avoid altering the "truth" of the shot, however if you are taking a photograph as "art" you can use all the tools at your disposal to make that art exactly as you want it.

My question to you is: Where is the line drawn between photographer and designer/editor of photos?

I'm uploading some examples of recent photos I took.  The originals and the altered photo's that I "developed" using Adobe Lightroom.  I adjusted the photos to look as I wanted them to look.  I gave the photos the tone and feel that I intended when taking the photograph.  I realize that some of these "developing" adjustments that are made with Adobe are similar to actual darkroom and photo developing techniques used in the past, before computers made things so easy, however I think it's that very ease that computers give that make me feel like I'm cheating.

What are your thoughts? At what point should a photographer NOT say "I took this photo" and actually say "I took this photo and then turned it into what you now see"
